ABOUT HENRY J ANASTASI

Henry J Anastasi is an Australian poet whose work explores memory, faith, imagination, and the quiet power of reflection. Born in Malta and raised across New Zealand and Australia, Henry’s life journey deeply informs his writing—shaping poetry that speaks to belonging, loss, hope, and the unseen emotional landscapes we all carry.

Henry comes from a large family and moved to New Zealand at a young age in search of a better life. He completed his schooling there, earning his Year 12 certificate, before relocating to Australia with his family in 1990. It was during his early years that Henry discovered his love for storytelling and poetry, a passion sparked when one of his written pieces was published in a school magazine.

For many years, Henry worked in the disability sector, an experience that strengthened his empathy and deepened his understanding of human emotion—elements that continue to influence his poetic voice. He is also a proud member of the Deaf community, an identity that brings a unique sensitivity and perspective to his creative work.

Beyond writing, Henry has a strong interest in competitive table tennis and has represented his state at a high level. Music, imagination, and storytelling remain central to his creative life, often weaving their way into his poetry.

Henry is the author of the poetry series Fragments of Elsewhere, a debut body of work spanning three volumes, written over many years and completed recently. He is currently working on Book 4 and Book 5, with future projects set to explore uncharted emotional and imaginative territory.

Through his writing, Henry invites readers to slow down, look inward, and discover meaning beyond the surface—encouraging bravery, creativity, and emotional honesty.
